26 Weeks Pregnancy Update
Baby’s gender:
Boy
Baby’s size:
Weighing in at about 1 2/3 pounds, measuring 14 inches from head to heel – about the size of a scallion
Baby’s development:
The network of nerves in your baby’s ears are better developed and more sensitive than before. He may now be able to hear both your voice and your partner’s as you chat with each other.
He’s inhaling and exhaling small amounts of amniotic fluid, which is essential for the development of his lungs. These so-called breathing movements are also good practice for when he’s born and takes that first gulp of air.
He’s also continuing to put on baby fat.
My weight gain:
18 lbs
Feeling:
Normal; sometimes I don’t feel pregnant at all. Except in the mornings when I try to get out of bed and I feel like I slept on rocks all night. If you ladies have any advice for sleeping I.am.all.ears!
I do still feel self-conscious sometimes when people look down at my stomach, ahhaa! Uh yep, baby in there (:
Morning sickness:
Doing good on this bit! I eat little snacks regularly and keep it pretty much at bay all the time.
Cravings:
Nothing out of the ordinary to be honest. Mostly just hungry a lot and up for eating anything, really anything; just hand it over already.
Things of Note:
I already feel like I am on the countdown and have to remind myself to calm down because I’m not even in my third trimester yet. I am so anxious, nervous, and excited for this little guy to get here and at the same time wishing he would stay in there a little bit longer. I feel like I haven’t read enough books yet or talked to enough women with baby experience to have him here already. He’s not here already but I feel like it is just around the corner and I can’t help but worry.
People are always telling me, “he’ll be here before you know it and then he’ll be six months and moving out before you can blink!” I’m like, “whaaaaaaaaat?!?” I already want to stop time and freeze it for a little while and I can only imagine how I’ll feel once he’s actually here.
My favorite thing to do is sit and feel him move. He is moving all the time. Literally no matter where I am he’s in there kicking away and I am always tempted to stop conversations mid sentence to be like “wait, watch this, he’s moving!” I never do though because that would be a little absurd and usually he stops right when I even try to get AJ to watch my stomach roll and pop out in places. I had no idea how cool it would be to see and feel them move in there all the time. I can’t believe no one really talks about it. Maybe they do and I didn’t listen or realize the full extent of it but it is by far the coolest thing ever. ev-ver.
