Half Up Mermaid Braid is a front lace braid that finishes in a mermaid style half up braid. It is a great braid for wearing during the Summer months because it keeps hair out of the way but is perfect for those who love wearing their hair down.
This hairstyle was another one of those moments when I stood in the bathroom trying to do a different hairstyle. I tried it over and over again and finally frustrated, stopped and started braiding however I wanted. This hairstyle was the result and I immediately knew it would make a perfect tutorial.
How to do the Half Up Mermaid Braid:
Step 1 / Take a section of hair right at the hairline, in the center.
Step 2 / Divide it into three pieces.
Step 3 / Cross the side strands over the middle.
Step 4 / When crossing the front strand over the middle, bring in a section of hair, creating a lace braid.
Step 5 / Continue braiding until it reaches the back of the crown.
Step 6 / Now, braid a few stitches of a regular braid, 3 or 4 cross-overs.
Step 7 / When crossing the right strand over, take a section of hair from the top of the right side, cross it around the head and add it into the braid.
Step 8 / Cross the left strand over and bring in a section of hair right next to the braid, on the left side.
Step 9 / Cross the right strand over and bring in a section of hair from the front, on the right side, wrapping it around and adding it in.
Step 10 / Repeat steps 7 through 9 so there are about 4 pieces added into the braid on each side.
Step 11 / Continue the braid down a little farther and tie it off with an elastic band.
Step 12 / Now add a second elastic right at the base of the mermaid-style braid and remove the elastic at the bottom of the braid.
