Fancy Fishtail Braid is the dressed up version of the regular Fishtail Braid.

Fishtail braids are so huge right now. You can see them everywhere and are the perfect way to change up the typical braid. French braids and Dutch braids are so common that sometimes simply switching over to a fishtail braid is exactly what you need for a fresh start as Summer rolls in.

Here are the steps to get your own version of this look:

Step 1 / Take a section of hair right at the top of the head from the corners of the forehead.

Step 2 / Brush the hair back towards the top of th head.

Step 3 / Divide the hair into two sections and cross the left side over the right.

Step 4 / Slide a pin into the strand that now sits on the right side to hold it in place.

Step 5 / Take a section of hair between the hair pinned and the left ear.

Step 6 / Bring the strand towards the back of head twisting upwards as it goes.

Step 7 / Pin the twist against the back of the head.

Step 8 / Repeat steps 5 through 7 with a section on the right side.

Step 9 / Next, take a section of hair, at the back of the head, in the center.

Step 10 / Divide the hair into two halves.

Step 11 / Take a section of hair from the left side and cross it over the top, adding it into the right side, to create a fishtail braid.

Step 12 / Next, take a section of hair from the right side and cross it over the top, adding it into the left side.

Step 13 / Repeat this two or three more times.

Step 14 / Now, instead of taking a strand from the left side, grab a section of hair on the outside, that was left out, and cross it over to the opposite side.

Step 15 / Repeat step 14 with the right side. This will create a french braid effect.

Step 16 / Finish by tying off the braid with an elastic band.
