4 Shades of Red-Lipstick Guide is what every girl should keep in mind when reaching for a red lipstick.
There are actually four different shades of red that you can wear. Depending on the day, a certain red shade can be just the thing your outfit needs to go from casual to glam.
1 / RED
My personal favorite. I am wearing Ruby Woo by MAC and it is the perfect matte red shade I have ever tried. Matte lipsticks are my favorite because they have a longer wear and I don’t have to be extra careful while wearing it. Lipsticks that are too slick tend to rub off quicker since I am guilty of being one of those girls that constantly rubs their lips together.
This particular shade is a true red color but still works well with my warm undertones. It compliments my skin and instantly takes my look from meek to chic.
2 / PINK RED
For this shade I mixed two colors together. You’re probably thinking, “that’s not red.” It is my friends, it is. I actually picked a bright pink color and swiped it over my lips first. Then I grabbed a beautiful red shade and gently patted it over the pink to deepen the color to a soft red. I was afraid it’d show up too close to a regular red so I added a little more pink on top again. The pink shade is Milani Hot Pink Rage and the red is Milani Best Red.
These lipsticks are literally THE best ever, lit-chra-lee.
Hot Pink Rage could possibly be my favorite hot pink lipstick in the history of lipsticks. Tooting my own horn here a bit, but I do have a slight habit of collecting lipsticks and I could blatantly say that you need not one of these but three of these. Tres. Oh yes, a back up for your back up; totally worth it.
Add a hint of red to it and voila you now have the perfect pink/red shade.
3 / ORANGE RED
Oh you guys, can I just tell you how much I love orange/red lipstick. I totally dig it. It took me so long to really get into wearing lipstick regularly but I cannot get enough of it now. Believe it or not, I always thought my lips were too skinny for lipstick. Uhhh, perfect reason to always wear it, der. (: I was watching a video by TiffanyD and thought “her lipst are skinny like mine and she looks bomb, I’m wearing lipstick.” So glad I decided to.
Back to this lovely shade, however. For this gorgeous mix I used MAC Lady Danger and NARS Heat Wave. I feel as though Heat Wave is such a gorgeous color but a little too deep for what I was going for. I really wanted the orange to show through so I mixed it with Lady Danger. Overdone? Maybe but it’s beautiful nonetheless and right up my alley. Plus, when you’ve got two perfect shades of orange/red lipstick why not wear both. Te he.
4 / DEEP RED
Last but certainly not least. A deep red shade is so darn sexy. Am I right or am I right? I once wore a “Vintage Red” lipstick and received so many compliments I was blown away. I had no idea a deep red shade could look that good on me. My skin is so darn pale I have to keep clear of anything too deep for fear of getting a look that is too ‘dark,’ if you get my drift.
For this lovely combo I mixed MAC Viva Glam Rihanna and Revlon Wine with Everything. I mixed the two for a slightly brighter red and I’d say the combo is pretty darn perfect.
It was one of those days, strolling into the makeup department at Nordstrom, returning a few somethings when the lovely Rihanna lip color caught my eye. I have never bothered with “collector items” before when it comes to makeup but I figured now was a good a time as any to try one out. I am glad I grabbed this beauty because it is a perfect shade for that beautiful deep red lip.
P.S. I’m listening to Bravado by Lorde. You should listen; it’s uber good.
SHOP THE POST:
I have just ordered Lady Danger by MAC. Was not sure if I should because like you I have thin lips. Not really a winter shade but I always feed dowdy in winter. Time to be brave!

you look lovely in all of them. I am not “brave” enough to wear such rich shades, giggle. I am stopping by to say hello and wish you happiness. It is nice getting to know new people through the group giveaway at the Freckled Fox. I hope you will share this post at my hop tomorrow.
Hugs, Katherine
