Combination braids will forever be a favorite of mine. I recently did this style and posted a snap on instagram with enough requests for a tutorial that I thought I’d quickly throw one together for you. This combination of French braid and lace braid can be simple to recreate once you see how they’re broken down into steps. Triple Braided Updo Instructions:
- Step 1 / Begin with a part on the right side. Then divide off a 1-2″ section of hair on the left side, near the hairline, and clip away the back hair.
- Step 2 / Braid this section in a french braid by crossing the side strands over the middle strand and then bringing in new sections of hair.
- Step 3 / Continue the french braid down the left side until it reaches the top of the ear. Then braid the section a little further down and criss-cross two bobby pins over the ends to keep the braid from unraveling.
- Step 4 / Next create a second braid behind this first one but only add in new sections to the left side of the braid creating a lace braid.
- Step 5 / Continue the braid keeping it close to the first one, braiding down towards the left ear and securing the end by criss-crossing two more bobby pins.
- Step 6 / Now create a third braid on the right side of the head. I started it like a french braid and then switched to a lace braid after two cross-overs.
- Step 7 / Next bring all the hair together at the nape of the neck.
- Step 8 / Wrap a hair band once over all of the hair. Then twist the band once more over the right hand and use the left to spread the ponytail upwards around the hair band. Then pull the hair band over the hair, twist it with the left hand and wrap it a third time to create the base of the bun.
- Step 9 / Combine the ends sticking out and tuck them back into the hair band to form another loop.
- Step 10 / Set the style with a medium-hold hairspray and smooth down any flyaways.
