Today for the May challenge, we’re assigned to rant about something whether it be a pet peeve, a controversial subject, or a topic we feel strongly about.
Believe it or not, I don’t really want to rant and rave about something but there is one thing that I do feel strongly about
We have the right to make our own choices, to forge our own paths in life, and choose the way we ultimately go.
I don’t believe that someone should push their opinions on someone else. No two people are exactly alike so their choices are never exactly the same and and it’s wonderful because that’s what makes us all so unique.
So if your choices are different than mine and different than someone else’s, I’m not going to tell you how to live. I’m not going to tell you whether your way of life is right or wrong, or what you should or shouldn’t be doing but I will do one thing and that is listen to you.
I will listen to you divulge your wildest dreams, your hardest hardships, your foe and follies. I may say something I shouldn’t, like give advice, which I find myself prone to do but I consciously try not to.
Let me tell you why I feel this way. It’s one of the keys of life, the key to making friends, the thing that everyone wants
to feel important.
Have you ever met someone and talked to them for a few mere minutes but walked away feeling on top of the world? I certainly have and it’s truly mind boggling. It’s as though suddenly you were the only person in the room and what you had to say was the most important thing to them; you had their undivided attention.
That is all anyone wants; they want you to listen. They want to be the only one in the room. They want to feel as though they are the most important thing to you right then and right there. So just listen. Don’t tell them what to do, don’t tell them what you would do, don’t tell them how to feel, simply listen to them.
Give them an ear, a shoulder to lean on, a friend they can turn to because that’s all anyone truly wants. They want to feel accepted, they want to feel loved; despite their choices, despite their decisions, past and present. Just love them, accept them for who they are, as your friend, sibling, child, aunt, uncle, cousin, coworker, and neighbor. Love them unconditionally because that’s all anyone really wants. {Give the people what they want!}
That’s what I feel strongly about.
