Side-swept Holiday Curls + a Giveaway

The holidays are right around the corner and with that fun holiday parties! Big, gorgeous curls always look great and this pretty, side-swept style will have everyone asking how you did it! There’s no question that this is one of my new favorite styles and the best part is that it is so simple to do! While I have shared a similar style in the past, this new ‘do features a peek-a-boo braid that is so elegant, you will want to wear it to every party this year!  [Video tutorial at the bottom!]

Side-swept Holiday Curls Supplies:

Step 1: For curls with lots of volume and bounce, it’s best to start with clean, damp hair. I prefer to wash my hair every three days so this is a great way to set up your look for the next couple of days.

Ideally, I will let my hair air dry a little while applying my makeup. This helps cut down on the amount of heat I need to apply to my hair. Before I begin blow drying, I apply a nickel size amount of the Agave healing oil and Redken Smoothing lotion.

Step 2: To finish drying, I use the Pro Beauty Tools Ionic Blow Dryer. I love this dryer! It has become my all-time favorite because it’s lightweight and gentle on my hair. Because of the Ionic motor it is quieter than other dryers I’ve used. It also has three different heat settings so when I don’t have the time to let my hair air dry, this one dries my hair much faster than most dryers while exposing my hair to less heat.

Style Tip: Use the cool shot when finished to seal the ends and add shine! Because this hair dryer helps remove moisture quicker it also makes hair shinier, while adding volume and reducing frizz at the same time too!

Step 3: Next, I separate my hair, at the top of the ears, clipping off the top with a clip. Then I apply my favorite heat protectant spray, Redken Iron Shape to the bottom portion and brush through my hair.

Step 4: Next, take a 2 inch section of hair and run the Pro Beauty Tools Shine Enhancing 1″ Ceramic Straighter over the hair, staying near the roots. I love the size of this flat iron. If you have longer hair, I highly recommend this size for smoothing natural waves and creating shine.

This straightener works great for using every day. The floating ceramic plates ensure heat is distributed evenly, reducing damage while gliding through the hair without snagging.

Step 5: Let down small sections of hair and continue smoothing and straightening the hair near the roots and around the face for a smooth and sleek finish.

Step 6: Next, pin the hair up again, above the ears. This makes curling the hair easier to do because you are working with smaller sections. Take a 2 inch section of hair and place the curling iron at the center of the section; I am working with the Pro Beauty 1 ¼” Professional Curling Iron. Twist the curling iron towards the back of the head, slowly wrapping the hair around the barrel.

Style Tip:  Always start curling in the middle of the section because the ends are the most delicate so this helps protect them and encourage a stronger hold.

This curling iron is great for all hair types because it has multiple heat settings allowing flexibility with how much heat is applied to the hair. Remember, to always curl the hair away from the face to create those modern, soft curls.

Step 7: Continue curling the hair in 2″ sections; letting down small sections as you go, slowly working towards the hair at the top of the head.

I swear by this curling iron because it creates gorgeous, voluminous curls that everybody loves. The gold technology applies a direct heat to the hair so it curls each section more quickly, reducing the amount of time your hair is exposed to the heat. It also works especially well if you have longer hair. Prepare for the compliments whenever you use this curling iron!

Style Tip: If your hair struggles to hold curl, let them cool off in your hand. Letting them stay tight as long as you can will help them last longer. I find that this really helps the curls set.

To create the side-swept style:

  • Step 1 / create a deep side part and sweep all the hair over the left shoulder.
  • Step 2 / Twist the hair at the nape of the neck and secure the hair with several bobby pins.
  • Step 3 / Separate off a small 2″ section of hair above the left ear.
  • Step 4 / Divide the section into three smaller pieces and begin a braid by crossing the side strands over the middle piece.
  • Step 5 / Continue braiding the hair all the way to the bottom.
  • Step 6 / Wrap the braid down towards the nape of the neck so it meets the hair previously twisted and pinned and secure it with several bobby pins, ensuring they are hidden underneath the hair.
  • Step 7 / Finish and set the style with a medium to strong hold hairspray.  This helps hold those curls all day and gives a nice shine.

If only I had your amazing hair and talent and your gorgeous face, I would look amazing as you do!! You are so talented but I’ve read it came with much practice styling your hair. You are a beautiful lady.
I just got my long hair cut to shoulder length with long layers therefore I’m still playing with styling it and how I like it best. Prior to getting my hair cut I wore it up most of the time. Thanks so much for this opportunity.
