Half Up Dutch Braids is a great hairstyle for Summer and just so happens to be the exact reverse version of Braid 11-Half Up French Braids. I love both these hairstyles for summer because they have such a bohemian vibe that I think jives perfectly with the carefree feeling of the season.
I will confess that I am already looking forward to Fall. It is my absolute favorite season with cozy sweaters, plum hued lip stains, and nightly reads by a fire. I am getting way ahead of myself so let’s move on to this tutorial.
Click through for the instructions
Step 1 / With a deep side part on the left side, take a section of hair, on the heavy side of the part, and divide it into three pieces.
Step 2 / Begin a Dutch braid by crossing the front, side strand under the middle section. {check out this video for learning how to Dutch braid}
Step 3 / Next, cross the back under the middle strand.
Step 4 / Cross the front strand under the middle, take a section of hair directly below it and add it in as well.
Step 5 / Then, take the back strand, cross it under the middle, and bring in a section of hair, adding it in with the strand.
Step 6 / (oh snap, that transitioned quick!) Simply repeat steps 4 and 5 until the braid reaches the top of the ear. Then continue braiding a regular braid to the end of the hair and tie it off with a clear elastic band.
Step 7 / Repeat steps 1 through 6 with the other side of the head.
Step 8 / *optional: take a teasing comb and back comb the hair at the top of the crown to create volume for the finished hairstyle.
Step 9 / Wrap both braids to the back of the head and tie them together with a clear elastic band. Then remove the original bands from each braid and smooth out the strands.
