Red is a tricky color to maneuver when it comes to the eyes. Red makeup is currently trending for Fall, however, and it is hard to resist not giving it a try. A few tips that can make the undertaking a little easier is first knowing the undertones of your skin. If your skin has blue undertones then reach for reds that do as well. I have an orange/peach undertone so reds with that tinge suit me best. Of course, you are never limited to wearing one shade of red and with enough confidence, can make both wearable no matter the color of your complexion.
Wearing a hint of red liner is a simple way to ease into the trend. If you normally wear liner, swipe on a thick red line with a smooth pencil then go over the bottom half with a thin line of black or brown. It hides most of the red but you are still wearing your usual black or brown liner.
Incorporating red tones into a basic smokey eye gives the illusion of red without the drama. Dust dark brown eye shadow along your upper lash line then gently smoke the color up onto the lid and into the crease. Swipe a clean brush into your red eye shadow and tap off the excess. Gently dab the color on the center of your lids and blend outwards for that subtle hint of red. Finish with eyeliner and mascara.
If you are feeling brave, cover your entire lids with bold reds like NYX Rust eyeshadow and MAC’s Cranberry Frost as seen in the photos above!
